York and Father's Day

Benjamin came and spent a few days with Julia. They went to the wonderfully quaint town of York.
They ate pork and cracklings from The York Roast Co. Julia worked on her dissertation; Benjamin studied for a pilot exam.

Here in DC, Meme came over for dinner on Father's Day--sirloin steak from Wagshal's (forgot to take an after pic). Our celebration was low key--definitely not the same without having the child around. We got to do a quick FaceTime with Jules to catch up before she heads to France for the week.

Red Carpet Secret Cinema and Graduation

Julia met up with Emmie in London for the Secret Cinema: Casino Royale event. "Blurring the lines between fiction and reality, the experience will bring-to-life awe-inspiring scenes and locations!" They had a great time, then crashed at Lisa's hotel room for the night.

Kathryn graduated from 8th grade this past week. Also pictured are some food creations from Jules.

 

5K and Doughnuts

What do you do after running a 5k? The girls went and had doughnuts! Quiet week and weekend, Julia remains busy with deadlines. The cats and I were in bed all weekend with a stomach bug. Steven maintained the household.

Beckham and BBQ

Julia went to Manchester and saw David Beckham play and win for Manchester United! She is super busy working on her dissertation--but still making time to cook and eat healthfully. Kudos!

We went to the Mindels for a BBQ and ate A LOT. They had so much delicious food and were very thoughtful regarding my celiac and food allergies. Miriam is going to UVA!

And, although apart, Julia and I are watching, Nailed It! on Netflix and loving it. Can't wait to see her in person...less than a month!


 
 

Birthday and the Keto Kid

Julia--aka @keto_the_kid--produced a keto cheesecake video and is showing off her keto "bread" skills. She's busy working on deadlines for her module and the extensive work on her dissertation too.

Here in DC, we celebrated Chad's 46th birthday! Lisa made some delicious lamb...oh, so good!

Birthday and Cooking Up a Storm

Despite the stress and imminent deadlines, Julia is making progress and cooking lots of yummy dishes along the way. I love her new Instagram account, @keto_the_kid. The food pics are great!

Here in DC, we celebrated Ethan's 17th birthday with the family. He got a Ford Fusion. Laura was in town to celebrate Mother's Day; it was nice to catch up and hear how great Nick is doing at Harvard.

Mother's Day was low-key...highlight being a FaceTime call with Jules. Miss her so much!

  

Ice Shelf Calving Fronts in Antarctica

I am currently a graduate student at the University of Leeds studying an MRes in Climate and Atmospheric Science. Through the supervision of Dr. Anna Hogg, my research includes the observation of Antarctica's major ice shelves over the past decade to track areas of both ice growth/loss. This is completed through the collection of satellite MODIS imagery (found here), QGIS tracing of the calving fronts, and measuring of Antarctica's ice shelf area changes per year. Through my affiliation with the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM), this project is projected to aid in future research concerning the longevity and stability of Antarctica's ice shelves.

Prior to the University of Leeds, I graduated from The Ohio State University (2018) with a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science. This program fostered my intrigue into climatology and its impacts on all regions of the world. As an undergraduate student, I worked in two separate research groups. The first research group, Dr. Bryan Mark and Jim Degrand's Great Basin Expedition (GBEX), investigated a paleoclimatological fire history through sediment charcoal obtained from Great Basin National Park, Nevada. Completing field work in Nevada for two summers (2016, 2017) confirmed my love for both research and the observation of climatological effects on Earth's surface. The second research group, Dr. Steven Quiring's Climate Analytics Lab, focused on improving the accuracy of hurricane power outage forecasts by identifying where models performed well and where they performed poorly. This project furthered my appreciation for big data science, specifically working in programs like python, MATLAB, and GIS.
