Maggiano's Little Italy OSU Event

Ohio State University (OSU) hosted a lunch and program for all Washington-area admitted students. It was very nice.

First, the food: The buffet included tomato caprese salad, caesar salad, chicken marsala, lobster-baked tilapia with spinach and orzo pasta, and lasagna. There was apple crostada and tiramisu for dessert. Although I am in theory against eating tilapia (based on what they feed on), I couldn't resist it and it was fantastic!

Second, the program: It was disappointing that they didn't have more alumni, current students, or faculty mingling with the tables. The student panel was by far the best part of the session. It was helpful to hear about how they commute back and forth to campus/home and how much they like OSU. I appreciated that it was not lengthy or boring in the least. They allowed for just enough questions. Unfortunately, all four students at our table were undecided about OSU. It would have been nice to talk to a local kid who had paid their deposit and was 100% sure of Ohio. AND, one of the parents was an alumna (her daughter applied to 8 schools and was undecided); and one of the student's sisters is a current senior at OSU (she's debating between OSU, Brown, and UPenn). Three of the students (the one girl wasn't there for this question) are all admitted into the scholars program.

Result? Well, there was no revelation for Julia at this event; however, she did get a chance to see that the same people who are admitted to OSU from the area are pretty much the same type of student as her (very little diversity). The saga continues.

Thanks for the nice lunch, OSU!

License..AU…Rocklands!

No news to report this weekend regarding college…but we had a fun-filled weekend! Julia passed her drivers test Saturday morning. The tester got in the car and said, "We are running behind today, so we're going to make this quick." And he wasn't kidding. Steven and Julia waited over an hour past their appointment time and then the test was over within two minutes. In fact, I was on the phone with Steven when she left and he said, "There she goes… yaddah, yaddah, yaddah… oh no, she's coming right back, that can't be good." She got a 96%, lost four points for something regarding noticing other cars. Congratulations, Julia!
The AU game was very exciting, American University versus Holy Cross. David Gregory (AU alumni) was three rows ahead of us. The final score was 57 to 46! This puts them in the Patriot League Championships, this Wednesday against Boston University.

We got takeout from Rocklands tonight because I had a work deadline to wrap up. Delicious as usual!

Mother Daughter Tea Huge Hit

Thank you Holton-Arms School for a lovely mother-daughter tea. It was delightful. The hallway outside of the dining room had a photo gallery of all their baby pictures. So cute! The hardest part was writing a letter to Julia that will be mailed to her at college next year. They also had a slideshow with pictures of mother/daughters 15 years ago and today--heart warming.

Everyone received a full plate of treats and delicious tea.

Pei Wei Asian Diner

We ventured to Dupont Circle to try Pei Wei. It is owned by P.F. Changs. It was so-so, not as good as P.F. Changs--probably better for lunch.
Chad and Meme joined us. We talked a bit about OSU versus Penn State. Julia is getting tired of regurgitating the pros and cons. Unfortunately, our visit to Penn State this past Thursday and Friday did not solidify anything in her mind. She has some time to decide, so we're going to table the choice for now.

Recommendation: Meme said the spring roll was good.
