Boost, Brunch, Bye

Julia got boosted, a requirement as a standby for the research trip to Antarctica. Benjamin is back in Alaska. She's keeping busy with school and yoga (studio pic below). We had a lovely family brunch on Sunday as a send-off for mom. We are so excited that she can take this fantastic four-country adventure--Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. We'll miss her! Check out the cinnamon roll as big as Chad's head--kudos to the head chef and baker, Lisa!

Band and Family Weekend

Benjamin was in St. Paul to see Julia's band (dressed up like characters from the television show, King of the Hill) play. They went up to Duluth for the weekend and also attended a Minnesota Wild versus Colorado Avalanche game (Colorado won).

On the home front, Meme, Steven, and I went to Family Weekend at Georgetown University with the Saunders. It was so nice to spend time with Mark, Carrie, and Elizabeth.

Article Submission and the Austins

After many years of hard work and collaboration with Dr. Anna Hogg (University of Leeds), Julia has submitted her scientific paper for submission! So happy that she will be able to publish her research from her time spent at Leeds. This is totally separate from her PhD research... so nice to get this off the to-do list. :) Well done, Jules.

On the home front, we had a nice visit with Don & Laura. They were on their way to Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks. Lisa made an impressive Dutch baby. WOW.

Crans-Montana Switzerland

Julia was in Crans-Montana, Switzerland (~2 hours from Geneva), for the International Partnerships in Ice Core Sciences this past week. She flew into Geneva Airport and then trekked her way by train and bus to her final destination. There is a picture of the program; hers has the longest title. :) She went without any other colleagues, made new connections, and enjoyed it (especially after her session was over). Check out those Swiss Alps!

On the home front, I feel better and didn't get Steven sick; a win-win.

New Jobs!

Congratulations to Benjamin! He interviewed with three different airlines and got three offers! Starting in December, he'll fly for Atlas Airlines. It is a cargo company with hubs all over and training in Miami. In addition, he also got hired as a helicopter pilot for the Air National Guard based in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a reserve position, so he'll be keeping his (new) day job. We're proud of him and happy that he's happy. Kudos!

WAIS Workshop and Board Meeting

It was a great work week for all! Julia was in Estes Park, at the West Antarctica Ice Sheet workshop and presented her poster. Check out all of those COVID tests. She roomed with Jenn. Cute picture of her, Asmara, and Allie and so picturesque.

I attended my first WBG Board Meeting, which was a ton of work to prepare for and a ton of work afterward. :) My boss and I were the first ones to arrive and the last to leave, thus the empty room shots. I still only managed to be in the office one day (mostly because I was too busy and not feeling 100%).

Thankfully, I tested negative for COVID; and hopefully, I will be kicking this cold soon. Julia is back in St. Paul for 24 hours--unpacking, laundry, and repacking. She boards a plane tonight for Switzerland, where she'll be speaking at another conference!
